Matt O'Laughlin
Maloney O'Laughlin PLLC
Seattle,

Matt has devoted his career to exclusively representing employees who have been treated unfairly by corporations and the government. In 2003, fresh out of law school, Matt successfully tried his first case against the government. Since that time, he has established a winning record, obtaining large verdicts and settlements for his clients. That success comes from an understanding that his cases are not about him, but about his clients’ stories and righting the wrongs that have been done to them. Matt guides his clients through the every step of the legal process, protecting and empowering them to ensure the process is a positive one. Describing Matt, clients have said he “will treat you and your concerns with the upmost respect,” that “he genuinely cares if your rights have been violated,” and that he “understands people, diversity, and has a commitment to practicing law for all people.” Other clients have described him as “aggressive and professional,” “empathic,” and possessing “outstanding analytical skills and uncommon common sense.” After trial, one client simply exclaimed, “Matt was on fire with the jury.”

Matt is repeatedly ranked as one of the leading attorneys in the field of employment law. He has been recognized as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers. For several years now, his peers have recognized him with the distinction of Super Lawyer. He has also obtained a rating of 10 out of 10 by the peer and client-reviewed organization AVVO. In 2016, he was invited to join the National Advocates Top 100 Lawyers. One seasoned federal judge has described the quality of Matt’s representation as “outstanding,” noting further that he had “impressed this Court at trial.” Another retired federal judge wrote that Matt’s work in the field of employment law was “exceptional.” Matt’s writings also have been published on a wide variety of topics and he has been a contributing editor for one of the American Bar Association’s authoritative treatises on employment law for many years.

On a more personal level, Matt believes deeply in the service he provides to his clients. From a very young age, he learned the importance of protecting our civil rights. In the 1960s, his father answered the call to all clergy in the United States to come to the South to stand for civil rights. Continuing this family tradition, Matt is a fearless and unrelenting advocate against any corporate or government bully who seeks to diminish our proud history of equal justice under the law.
