Growing up in McAllen, Texas, and having uncles who served as judges enabled Miguel to observe the court and attend hearings from a young age. Watching trials play out — and seeing how the lawyers helped their clients receive justice — inspired Miguel to pursue a law career himself. He earned a BA in political science from the University of Texas San Antonio and entered Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston after a year working as a paralegal in Austin. Miguel’s parents instilled in him an extremely strong work ethic and compassion for those who experience unfortunate and unexpected events that life may throw at them. He learned what it means to “hustle” and work hard for what you want at a young age by working at his father’s business. Miguel’s mother is a registered nurse of over 40 years who held jobs as a school nurse, working graveyard shifts in emergency rooms at hospitals, and everything in between. Miguel remembers some of the tragic stories his mother revealed while on the job as a nurse — from drunk driving accidents to deadly shootings. The physical and mental strain of such events can take a toll not only on the injured individuals, but also on their families.
