Hello, my name is Richard (Rick) Eddington. I have dedicated my entire 34 years of legal practice to helping represent individuals, and their families, who have been the victims of personal injury and wrongful death accidents. Being a second-generation plaintiff's personal injury attorney who was raised in Texas, I was able to learn from the best and truly enjoy helping people in need. I have seen first-hand how insurance companies take advantage of, and bully, people who are placed in a situation of financial hardship due to a personal injury accident through no fault of their own.
I grew up in Houston, Texas where I graduated high school in 1974. I can remember when I was very young, going with my family to high school basketball games to watch my father coach. He was a high school teacher and the basketball coach, while at the same time attending law school at night and in the summers, before becoming a personal injury attorney in 1964. During this time, my mother was working full time at the telephone company to help support the family. I saw how hard my parents worked to support our family and learned at a young age the importance of a good work ethic. My father, as a young personal injury attorney, often worked nights and weekends to build a successful personal injury practice.
Seeing the satisfaction my father got from helping people who were injured, and often in dire need of help, is what drove me to follow in his footsteps into personal injury law. He was such an influence on not only me, but also my brother and sister, that we all went into personal injury law. Top Lawyers in Denver
Throughout the 1980's and 90's my family had a personal injury law firm with offices in Houston, Brownsville and Corpus Christi. Our personal injury firm handled numerous catastrophic personal injury cases and wrongful death cases, including many multi-million dollar jury verdicts and settlements, many of which the insurance companies insisted upon keeping settlement amounts confidential.
During my 34 years of personal injury practice I have tried numerous personal injury and death cases in both state and federal courts. While I am currently licensed in both Texas (currently inactive) and Colorado, I have also been admitted to the bar in California, Louisiana, Florida, New Mexico, Arkansas, Wyoming, and Iowa to try personal injury cases with local attorneys there. Over the years I have tried trucking cases, product liability cases, premises liability cases, aviation cases, maritime cases, bad faith insurance cases, and many auto accident cases. These personal injury cases have involved traumatic brain injuries, catastrophic spinal injuries, burn injuries, wrongful death, and other routine injuries.
My personal injury trial experience and utmost respect for our civil jury system has led to me being nominated to the American Board of Trial Advocates, one of the highest honors that a civil trial attorney can obtain. After being a member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association for many years and enjoying the benefits of such a great organization, I chose to give back to the organization and was elected to serve a term on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. I am also a member of both the Million Dollar and Multi-Million Dollar Advocate Forums.
Abota LogoI love trying personal injury cases and really enjoy helping mentor younger, less experienced, attorneys that are eager to learn the art of trial advocacy. This passion was the driving force behind me taking on the task of becoming the Director of the Litigation at a large Denver law firm for a couple of years where I lead the litigation department and got to mentor many of the younger attorneys, including my own son. Following my first full year of personal injury practice in the Denver area I was voted by my peers as one of a handful of the top personal injury attorneys in the Denver area by 5280 Magazine.
I have decided to slow down and step away from directing a litigation department and go back to working in both the Denver and Steamboat Springs areas in a small personal injury firm with my son, Wes. This way I can spend more time handling less cases and providing the best personal service possible to our clients. Furthermore, I will continue to help some of my personal injury attorney friends try some of their bigger personal injury cases, which I what I love to do.
I have a wonderful wife, Annie, three sons, two stepdaughters and a stepson. I moved to Colorado in the summer of 1999 because my family and I love the mountains. My oldest son, Wes, is now a third-generation personal injury attorney that I am proud to call my partner in the Eddington Law Firm.
When I am not working I enjoy mountain biking, snowboarding, golfing, surfing, scuba diving, fishing and sailing. I also like traveling with my wife as well as spending time with my family and friends.
