Attorney Tom Schaefer received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Texas in Austin, where he graduated cum laude and achieved the Dean’s Honor List and the National Dean’s List. He then received his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern University in Los Angeles, California. While in law school, Mr. Schaefer received the American Jurisprudence Awards in Insurance Law and Legal Profession (Ethics) and graduated in the top 10% of his class. He also studied comparative law at Oxford University, England, receiving a 4.0 GPA.
During law school, Mr. Schaefer worked for a law office in Beverly Hills, California, and an insurance defense firm in downtown Los Angeles, California. He also clerked for Judge Stephen Czulegar of the Los Angeles Superior Court in downtown Los Angeles, California. After law school, Mr. Schaefer operated his own practice and handled matters involving personal injury, workers’ compensation, class action lawsuits, products liability, and corporate law. He then worked as an insurance defense attorney for a total of ten years beginning with a globally recognized insurance company, and later moving to a couple of large law firms in the Atlanta area.
Schaefer Law Group, LLC was founded by Mr. Tom Schaefer, who now prides himself on the ability to go home thinking about how many people he helped, rather than how many hours he billed. Mr. Schaefer selects only a limited number of clients. He will handle your case personally, rather than passing it off to an associate or paralegal, which is often the norm with so many of the larger personal injury firms. Mr. Schaefer is licensed to practice law in Georgia and was licensed in California. He is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association, where he is a Board Member of the Lawyer Referral and Information Services section, the Gwinnett County Bar Association, and the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.
During his time away from the office, Mr. Schaefer is an avid motorcycle rider and competes in motorcycle land speed racing. He has won the Motorcycle Points Championship for four years in a row at the East Coast Timing Association, which is essentially the east coast version of the Bonneville Salt Flats. In fact, Mr. Schaefer has now set 1,104 land speed records, which is more than anyone in the world. This accomplishment has taken 17 years, and he should be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records shortly. He is also a member of the 200 MPH Club, and he is the second person in the world to have set over 100 land speed records. The racing is done on airstrips where the vehicles and motorcycles are allowed to run as fast as they can a half mile, one mile, 1.25 mile and 1.5 miles from a standing start. Additionally, Mr. Schaefer assists with various disaster relief efforts with groups like Samaritan's Purse, and he travels internationally for mission trips with his church.
