On Thursday, a DeKalb County jury delivered a post-apportioned award of more than $69.6 million to a young Navy veteran shot multiple times during a robbery and carjacking at a Moreland Avenue Kroger store, leading to multiple surgeries and leaving him paraplegic.

Lead plaintiff’s attorney Peter Law said the evidence was overwhelming that Kroger knew the store was located in an unsafe, high-crime area, yet failed to place any security guards in the parking lot where Laquan Taylor was robbed and shot.

“There was testimony the guy who shot him had been hanging out around there before,” said Law, who tried the case with Law & Moran colleagues E. Michael Moran and Denise Hoying.

A Missouri judge slashed a $1.56 billion verdict against Bayer to $611 million for three people who claimed its Roundup weed killer caused their cancer, by reducing punitive damages. Bayer said on Friday it is appealing.

The German company’s Monsanto unit had been found liable in November by a Cole County, Missouri, jury to Valorie Gunther of New York, Jimmy Draeger of Missouri and Daniel Anderson of California, who blamed their non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on their exposure to Roundup.

Jurors found Monsanto liable for negligence, design defects and failing to warn about Roundup’s risks. They awarded $61.1 million of compensatory damages and $1.5 billion of punitive damages, with the latter divided equally among the plaintiffs.

Concerns over the allocation of a $5.4 million settlement prompted a federal judge on Tuesday to delay final approval of a class-action settlement against GW until May.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon pushed back a final decision about a class-action settlement between the University and a group of students and parents who alleged GW violated contracts by failing to refund students who took online classes in spring 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision to delay the final settlement decision came after Benjamin Heidloff and Matthew West, current GW Law students, objected to the settlement’s terms regarding attorney fees and plaintiff rewards during the hearing.

A parent filed the lawsuit against GW in May 2020, alleging that the University breached its contract by not partially refunding students who took online classes after officials made classes virtual in March 2020. After a D.C. District Court judge dismissed the case in March 2021, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit revived the lawsuit in March 2022.

A former JP Morgan analyst was awarded a $35 million verdict after the glass door of a Manhattan building suddenly shattered on her nearly a decade ago, leaving her with permanent brain damage, The Post has learned.

The ruling in favor of Meghan Brown, 36, followed a three-week trial in which jurors were shown shocking surveillance footage of the moment the 7½-foot-tall lobby door seemingly exploded as she was walking through it while leaving a physical therapy appointment in 2015.

“I do remember seeing glass, like, everywhere, in the lobby, near me,” Brown told jurors in Manhattan Supreme Court.
