NTL member secures $1M for client in rear-end traffic accident

Posted on March 1, 2018 by Andrew Findley

rear end collision, jury verdict, liabilityNational Trial Lawyers member James Kimball of Seigel Law, LLC in Ridgewood, New Jersey has secured a $1 million settlement in a lawsuit over a rear-end collision that left his client with back and neck injuries. Kimball reports that the case, Ottens vs. Ladd, was tried in Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, Bergen County, and the settlement was reached on February 14, 2018.

Kimball says the accident happened almost four years earlier, on February 4, 2014, and the plaintiff sustained significant personal injuries, was unable to work for a significant period of time and owed out-of pocket medical bills. The plaintiff had injuries to the neck and back, including, multiple herniated discs in the cervical and lumbar spine.  Plaintiff underwent conservative chiropractic care and numerous pain management injections.  Plaintiff then underwent one-level cervical fusion and three-level lumbar fusion surgeries.

In the accident, Kimball says the defendant failed to stop her vehicle at an intersection and rear-ended the plaintiff’s car.  Plaintiff was stopped for a stop sign ahead of defendant’s vehicle.  Due to icy conditions, the defendant’s vehicle slid into the rear of the plaintiff’s vehicle.
