Woman Receives $3M Settlement from Dunkin’ Franchise After Being Burned by Coffee

A Dunkin’ franchise has reached a settlement worth millions with a metro Atlanta woman after coffee spilled in her lap, burning her in 2021.

According to a press release from Morgan & Morgan, the lid was allegedly not secured to the cup, causing it to spill.

The then-70-year-old woman went to a Dunkin’ location on Nelson Brogdon Blvd. in Sugar Hill in February 2021. Her attorneys say when she was handed the cup, the lid came off and the coffee spilled all over her legs and chest. She allegedly suffered second and third-degree burns on her thighs, groin and abdomen and had to get skin grafts.
