GA Jury Awards $40M in Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Medical Center

In a trial that spanned multiple weeks, a Bibb County jury has awarded a family $40 million dollars in a wrongful death lawsuit against both Navicent Health in Macon, among other agencies and medical personnel.

According to court documents obtained by WGXA News, Willie and Yolynda Sanford, parents of the deceased Nykevia Shanice Sanford, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against multiple defendants. The suit claimed negligence and gross negligence in the medical care provided to their daughter, leading to her death. The case raised concerns about the actions of healthcare professionals and institutions involved.

Their daughter Nykevia Sanford was a 25-year-old sickle cell disease patient. She passed away on November 15, 2017. In their lawsuit, her parents were seeking compensation for her life’s value, as well as medical, funeral, and burial expenses. The Sanfords, serving as Co-Administrators of Nykevia’s Estate, also pursued damages for the pain and suffering she endured prior to her death.
