In today's video, Editor in Chief Larry Bodine interviews Peter Burg, a partner in the Burg Simpson law firm in Denver. Peter is a Board Member of Craig Hospital Foundation and past president of the Craig Hospital Board. He spoke recently at The National Trial Lawyers Summit about Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

1.4 million people suffer a traumatic brain injury (TBI) every year, resulting in death and disability. Here's what consumers should know about TBI litigiation.

  • Get a high quality attorney who is a strong advocate for people who are impaired. Don't use a lawyer who dabbles in the subject.
  • TBI cases are complex case to prove in court. The injuries are labeled mild, moderate and severe. TBIs are "mild if it isn't happening to you." With moderate and severe TBIs, CT scans and MRIs will typically show them. However, most TBIs are mild, and structural imaging doesn't always show the injury. That means you must rely on clinical findings of the treating physician, subjective reports of the injured person, and neuro-psychological testing.
